Hiep-Thanh Market
About This Spot
Stepping into Hiep-Thanh Market is like entering a quiet corner of Southeast Asia right in the heart of San Francisco’s Tenderloin. The space feels small but inviting, where the hustle of the city softens around shelves neatly lined with fresh produce, fragrant spices, and an array of ingredients that hint at stories from Vietnam, Cambodia, and Laos. There’s a comforting sense of familiarity here for those who know what to look for, and a gentle invitation to explore for those discovering these flavors for the first time.
The pace inside is unhurried but purposeful, with friendly owners moving efficiently behind the counters and customers browsing thoughtfully among vibrant fruits, leafy greens, and fresh cuts of meat. The atmosphere is shaped by the quiet hum of connection—a market where regulars exchange warm greetings and new visitors find little treasures like rare herbs, authentic snacks, or the elusive banh mi bread that speaks to home. It’s a place where daily needs meet cultural tradition, reflected in everything from butchered cuts to shelves of carefully curated Asian staples.
Hiep-Thanh Market carries the subtle energy of a neighborhood hub, balanced by a sense of care and attentiveness in how its shelves are stocked and organized. I would say that this grocery market is by far the best one in tenderloin. Reasons being a regular customer the owners are really friendly. The products being sold here are clean neat and organized. The prices are reasonable from vegetable fruits meat and fish. The checkout line is very small but they are pretty efficient in helping everyone checkout.

I go here every week yo buy whatever is fresh. It's the only local store I can buy pork belly. Their ban mhi bread is great and some hard to find Thai and Vietnamese items can be found here. $10 minimum for credit cards.

Small, fresh produces and typical Vietnamese market. Very friendly, cheap and fresh meat, fish or other Vietnamese/Chinese vegetables. Selling old, traditional and rare items for the daily needs of individual culture. Such as a similar item as "tiger balm " . It is not a typical Chinese market, but it is from Vietnamese, Cambodian to Laos market with open over 7 days per weeks in 9 hours. Want fresh with cheap, cheap with fast, fast with small store in Asian cooking at home !!!. Thus, want save on money, fresh produces or Asian tastes, Hiep Thanh is the best for small family from small store.

I like this little grocery store for interesting and exotic finds. The family running it are nice and have been there for a long time. Besides fruits, vegetables, Vietnamese fresh food and snacks, there are Thai ingredients and fresh meat with a butcher counter.

Great local market with an extensive selection of Vietnamese ingredients and packaged products as well as produce and a meat counter. They also have a small amount of other Asian ingredients they accept EBT

A great little market in what might otherwise be seen as a food desert. A small selection of vegetables with some great Asian finds can be found here. I recently picked up some Thai basil for 99 cents. The meat counter is a god-send for the area and prices are what you expect from an Asian market--cheap! Fresh rice noodles for $1.59 round out Hiep Thanh's winning ways. They also have all the requisite dry goods (rice vermicelli, rice paper to roll your Vietnamese summer rolls, etc.) and all the best sauces including the coveted Red Boat and MasterChef fish sauces. All of this is crammed into a tiny store. This is a good choice for those who don't want to trek to Chinatown, the Richmond or the Sunset for Asian groceries.

Small but great selection of asian grocery, i love the tiny cans of green and red curries. The veggies are fresh, the place maybe a but smelly due to the meat, but can't complain about the prices and the range of products.
